6.1.3 Water Consumption and Wastewater

Water is extensively used during textile processing. Factories reduce water consumption by installing low-liquor-ratio dyeing machines, reusing rinse water and recycling treated wastewater. Digital printing, new finishing technologies, efficient washing processes and closed-loop water systems significantly reduce freshwater demand while lowering wastewater volumes and treatment costs.

Ask your supplier: what is your water use per kilogram of fabric, what share is recycled or closed-loop water, and how does the measured wastewater load compare with the permit or ZDHC limits?
