1.3.2.6. Authentication and ownership

A verifiable digital identity is itself a service. It proves a product is genuine, deters counterfeits, and provides a clean record of ownership as an item changes hands, all of which raise resale confidence and value. In the Certilogo survey, authentication was the feature consumers most wanted from a passport, and the company has also found that shoppers are more willing to buy second-hand when a passport is attached.

For smaller premium brands whose designs are easily copied, this protection can be as valuable as any new revenue line.
