Case Example: Son of a Tailor

Son of a Tailor is a Copenhagen fashion-technology company that produces garments only after an order is placed. Customers provide basic measurements for a digital sizing profile, and items are then manufactured in Europe using materials such as organic cotton, Merino wool and TENCEL™ Lyocell. The model reduces finished-goods inventory and the risk of unsold stock.

The case also shows the trade-offs of on-demand production. Custom manufacture can increase lead time and requires reliable sizing, flexible capacity and responsive logistics; a poor fit may still create returns and waste. SMEs considering this model should track fit accuracy, remakes, delivery time, material utilisation and return rates, while designing durable products that can be repaired and eventually recovered.
