This module helps learners understand what makes textile products truly circular: the relationships between fibres, yarns, fabrics, dyes, finishes, trims, construction, production, use and end-of-life. It introduces circular textile systems, emerging material families (recycled, regenerative, regenerated, bio-based), product anatomy, circular design and production, end-of-life recovery routes and implementation tools (standards, certifications, traceability, LCA).

Who it is for: VET learners (EQF 4), HEI students (EQF 5) and fashion professionals in SMEs (EQF 6) — designers, product developers, buyers, production managers and sustainability coordinators in TCLF.

Time: ≈ 20 hours self-paced (15–35 h depending on profile).

Certificate: assessment = 100 points (chapter quizzes 30 · chapter assignments 30 · final knowledge quiz 30 · industry case & field activity 10). Score ≥ 60 and submit all assignments to earn the FashionKIC certificate.

Structure: 6 connected chapters, from system understanding to SME implementation, plus an industry case, final quiz and key takeaways.

Sustainable materials and processes are central to the transition towards circular fashion systems. Module 4 of the FashionKIC learning modules follows a textile product from material choices through design, production and end-of-life, and examines the real material, technical and systemic conditions behind circular fashion products.

Six chapters, each with a learning guide, a full-chapter book, a chapter assignment in three EQF tracks (VET — EQF 4, HEI — EQF 5, Professional — SME (EQF 6)), a knowledge quiz, key takeaways and references. Complete all chapter assignments and pass all chapter quizzes (60%) to complete the module and earn the badge.

Circular Design Strategies is the FashionKIC module on designing fashion products and services for circular and regenerative systems. Across seven chapters it moves from the principles of circular design (lifecycle thinking, the circular textile chain, multi-life assets) through the design approaches that support circular and regenerative innovation (ecodesign, Cradle to Cradle, biomimicry, biodesign, regenerative design), the practical challenges and innovation opportunities for SMEs, and the regulatory framework (ESPR, DPP, EPR, Green Claims, standards and certification) into the three strategy layers: upstream (brief, materials, sourcing, production partners), midstream (Best Available Techniques, smart manufacturing, industrial symbiosis) and downstream (repair, reuse, resale, collection, sorting, recycling and reverse logistics).

Seven chapters, each with a learning guide, a full-chapter book, a chapter assignment in three EQF tracks (VET — EQF 4, HEI — EQF 5, Professional — SME (EQF 6)), a knowledge quiz, key takeaways and further resources. Assessment follows the module rule: 100 points in total — 35 for the seven chapter quizzes, 35 for the seven chapter assignments and 30 for the final knowledge quiz; 60 points are needed for the module certificate and badge.

Sustainability communication is where circular ambitions meet public scrutiny. Module 1 of the FashionKIC learning modules shows how to make sustainability claims that are specific, evidenced and legally sound — and how to move from one-way promotion to communication that stakeholders can act on.

Digital Product Passports (DPPs) are the digital foundation for sustainable and circular fashion value chains. Module 5 of the FashionKIC learning modules equips learners to understand the regulatory context under the ESPR, map data requirements and supply chain actors, navigate technology standards (GS1, QR codes, RFID), and leverage DPP data for business value beyond compliance.
