2.3.2 Modal
Modal is a regenerated cellulosic fibre developed as an improved form of viscose. It is often made from beech wood pulp and is valued for softness, moisture absorption, dimensional stability and higher wet strength compared with conventional viscose (Lenzing, n.d.-b).
Modal is commonly used in underwear, sportswear, loungewear, T-shirts and home textiles. As with other regenerated fibres, its sustainability depends on responsible cellulose sourcing and controlled processing systems.
