- Design brief 3, Virtual sample review
- Task: Produce a digital sample of one garment in a 3D tool (CLO, Browzwear, Style3D or an accessible alternative) and review it as if a physical sample had arrived from your supplier. Write a 2-minute review note covering fit, fabric behaviour and print placement.
- Deliverable: one digital sample (screenshot) + review note.
- Assessment: 5 points, differentiated by learner profile in line with the FashionKIC EQF framework.
- EQF 4 (VET, identify, describe, follow steps): Identify the main avatar creation methods (size libraries, body scans, custom tools) and the fabric properties that must be captured digitally, and describe how a Fit Map shows fit problems. Then follow the guided review checklist (fit, drape, print, trims) to storyboard and review the virtual fitting of one garment on a standard avatar. Deliverable: illustrated one-page storyboard with the completed checklist.
- EQF 5 (HEI, apply, compare, implement): Design a virtual prototyping strategy for a small brand: apply an avatar approach (standard sizes, scan-based or made-to-measure) and justify it for the target customer; specify which fabric properties must be digitised and how, comparing two fabric simulations (e.g. scan vs AI texture) and stating when each is good enough; compare physical vs virtual sampling for one collection and implement a digital presentation concept (renders, AR try-on or virtual model). Deliverable: two A4 pages.
- EQF 6 (Professionals, assess, justify, design): Issue a review decision on the digital sample, approve or change, with justification and a change list. Assess the current sampling process of a brand you know, justify a business case for virtual sampling (sample rounds avoided, cost, time-to-market, emissions), and design the implementation: software stack, avatar and fabric data governance, KPI dashboard, and rollout plan across design and sales teams. Deliverable: three-page business case.
