  2. Chapter 6 — Midstream Strategies: Manufacturing Implementation
  3. 6.5 Assignment

6.5 Assignment

Step 1 — register your assignment version: click Choose your track and select the version you will complete: VET (EQF 4), HEI (EQF 5) or Professional — SME (EQF 6). You can change your answer at any time.

Choose the track for your profile, then complete the version that matches it. This assignment is worth 5 points; submit your deliverable here (text and/or file upload).

Shared activity objective: learners connect midstream manufacturing practice with BAT-based reference levels and propose improvements adapted to their role and level. A supplied process case (a small dyeing and finishing line with process steps, water and energy inputs, output volumes and BAT reference values) can be used in place of a real factory, so the task does not depend on access to a manufacturer.

VET / EQF 4: work from the supplied process case, or visit a manufacturer and interview them using the BAT template if access is available. Complete the template for the chosen case and propose two improvements with the reason for each.

-HEI / EQF 5: start from the supplied production scenario and dataset (process steps, water and energy inputs, output volumes and BAT reference values). Build the process map, identify where consumption concentrates, and propose an integrated plan combining resource efficiency, cleaner production and closed-loop water options. State every assumption, and identify missing data as something to request rather than to invent.

-Professionals / SMEs: benchmark either a production line at your workplace or a key supplier or process used by your organisation — for brand and design SMEs the supplier route is usually the realistic one. Compare current or reported performance against BAT-based references, note which evidence is missing, and draft a short internal proposal for efficiency, water-loop or industrial-symbiosis improvements.

Deliverables: Produce one written deliverable (completed BAT template / process map with energy and water estimates / benchmarked internal proposal).

Assessment criteria: correct use of BAT categories (water, energy, chemicals, waste, emissions), realism of the proposed improvements, and inclusion of at least one measurable KPI.
