5.7 Assignment — Technologies and Standards

Step 1 — register your assignment version: click Choose your track and select the version you will complete: VET (EQF 4), HEI (EQF 5) or Professional — SME (EQF 6). You can change your answer at any time.

Choose the track for your profile, then complete the version that matches it.

Learners choose one existing product (their own, or one supplied by the trainer) and complete the pathway-appropriate task below, applying the carrier, interoperability and standards-maturity concepts covered in this chapter.

VET (EQF 4)

Given three short product scenarios (e.g. a single consumer garment, a batch moving through a warehouse, a rental item needing frequent condition checks), learners select the most appropriate data carrier — QR, RFID, or both — for each, using a decision checklist covering cost, read range, line-of-sight, and whether the use case is consumer-facing or operations-facing (sections 5.2 and 5.3). Output: one completed checklist per scenario with a one-sentence justification for each choice.

HEI (EQF 5)

Learners compare two hypothetical DPP platform proposals for the same product line and assess each for interoperability risk, referencing the CIRPASS-linked integration-difficulty finding (section 5.4) and the vendor-lock-in test from section 5.4.3. The brief should conclude with a recommendation on which proposal to pursue, or what conditions would need to change before either is acceptable.

Professionals — SME (EQF 6)

Using one of their own product lines, learners classify their planned or existing data-carrier and platform choices as “established” or “emerging” using the three-part test from section 5.6.1, and produce a short written recommendation on investment sequencing: which choices are safe to build the core system on now, and which should be treated as bounded experiments to revisit later.
